The author used many sources, beginning with accounts by French explorers and missionaries of the 1600s, to trace migrations of numerous tribes in and around Ohio country. In doing so he noted which tribes were related ethnically or linguistically, which were located near each other and appeared to have good relations, and which were in conflict. Because of the large number of tribes discussed in the paper it is not an easy story to follow.
