A Tangled Web
Daisy Bland was an innocent, which is a dangerous thing to be when you are also particularly lovely and loving. Hugo Chesterman wasn’t in the least bit innocent, but he had great charm, an upper-class background (quite unlike Daisy's) and a way with women. Daisy met Hugo while she was on an errand for a milliner, and from the moment she met him Daisy was enchanted, and ultimately, because she had met him, Daisy's innocence was to be completely destroyed.
