God gave the law to the Israelites: (1) to reveal his holiness; (2) to provide a standard of conduct; (3) to expose and identify sin. (See Romans 3:20, 7:7.) Today, Christian believers are not under the law given through Moses. (See Romans 6:14b.) "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth" (Romans 10:4). However, this does not mean that the moral values of the Ten Commandments are discarded. Indeed, all -- except the fourth commandment -- are restated and enlarged upon in the teachings of the New Testament.
