Fin de siècle
Bringing together internationally-known specialists from the fields of international relations, history and politics, Fin de Siecle ranges widely over the terrible twentieth century, attempting to answer three overarching questions: What have been the salient characteristics of the century; what, if anything, is ending as the century ends; and was Churchill right in calling it a 'disappointing century'? As the individual contributors address these problems, they raise further questions: has this been an American century or a nuclear century? Is it the 'end of history', the triumph of Western liberalism, or merely the end of the Cold War.
