Studies in anglistics
The aim of the book is to reflect linguistic research at a university department of English. It is restricted to lexicology, grammar and language contact. The importance of corpus-based studies in anglistics is evident in all sections, but particularly so in the lexicology section, which contains articles on corpus and discourse typology. Apart from these, the articles in this section range from studies of Old English words to teenagers' swearwords in present-day London. Although a majority of the articles deal with pragmatic aspects of words, there are also more traditional studies of word-formation and figures of speech. The grammar section deals with some grammatical problems of past and present English, eg third person plural personal pronouns in Old English, zero relatives and nuclear and peripheral clauses in modern English.
