New Ways of Being Pentecostal in Latin America

Martin Lindhardt, Andrew Chesnut, Evguenia Fediakova, Virginia Garrard-Burnett

"Within the last half century the explosive growth of Pentecostalism has turned Catholic Latin America into a region of religious diversity and competition. However, another more recent source of religious pluralism in Latin America is increasing the diversity of Pentecostalism itself, and the ways in which individual Pentecostals exercise their faith. This book examines important transformations of Pentecostalism, such as an observed de-institutionalization of Pentecostal religious life; theological renewals and new kinds of religious competition between Pentecostal churches; generational dynamics within the Pentecostal movement and; social and educational mobility and a growing political and civic engagement of Pentecostals. Catholic responses to Pentecostal competition are also addressed in several chapters of the book"--
