Concept, installation and process artist Franz Erhard Walther (born 1939) is one of the pioneers of international modern art of the post-war era. His "1. Werksatz", created in the 1960's, is widely recognised as one of the key works of German concept art. With his textile object formations he challenged the viewers to become active themselves and experience his works not only visually, but also with their sense of touch. The four-time documenta contributor broadened the definition of sculpture in a most unique way. As a professor at the Hamburg Kunstakademie he gave important stimuli to a new generation of artists.
