Zhen tong
"Labor Pain" is about the pain of 3 generations of mothers from 1942 to 2008. Tao, raped by a Japanese soldier, gave birth to her daughter Little Tao, during the Sino-Japanese War. Like her mother, Little Tao gave birth to her daughter Wusheng during the Cultural Revolution, with a heavy emotional baggage. Wusheng, now lives under the shroud of 911 terror threat in New York, fails to keep her vow to never repeat her mother and grandmother's fate. Writer Zhang Ling (Gold Mountain Blue, Aftershock) has won many literary prizes. She is based in Toronto.
