Yves Auquier
Photographer of the intimate, Yves Auquier is interested in the living, in passing time, in the familiar and in the fleeting moment, himself summing up its transversality by the notion of 'intimate realism' He worked throughout his career in black and white and serial, carefully classifying his negatives in thematic binders and compiling new collections from them. He mainly publishes his series in the form of portfolios that he shoots himself in film. In Pays Noir, his first book, published in 1970, Auquier draws up a portrait of the country of Charleroi. He sees greatness and beauty in it when others, including the inhabitants of the 'Black Country', see it blackness and ruin. The minors series, published as a collection in 1975, puts Man at the center of the photographs. Loneliness, camaraderie, mine, darkness and the harshness of labor are all subjects present in these photographs....
