Just a few decades ago, markets were regarded as institutions that can be used to solve problems in almost all areas of society efficiently and to the benefit of all citizens. This assessment has meanwhile given way to another: since the outbreak of the global economic crisis in 2008, markets have increasingly been perceived as institutions that do not solve social problems and create social ills.
