For nearly 30 years there have been annual excavations at Kalkriese, the site of Varus' defeat in A.D. 9. The volume contains 14 papers presented at a symposium at VARUSSCHLACHT im Osnabrücker Land gGmbH - Museum und Park Kalkriese, which was held in the context of the temporary exhibition "ICH GERMANICUS! Feldherr Priester Superstar" in July 2015.
