The articles collected in this volume focus on education in Latin language and literature in the late antique and medieval eras. Education in these eras involved, on the one hand, systematic instruction in the Latin language through grammar textbooks and "Artes grammaticae;" and on the other, the reading of a classical canon that remained the same throughout the centuries (Virgil, Terence, Cicero) through literary manuals, the "Commentarii."
