A study of rural and peri-urban territories in the context of the development of a sustainable metropolis. In particular, it questions the established model of the diverse and dense city. Peri-urban areas (also called rurban space, outskirts, or the hinterland) can be described as the landscape interface between town and country, or also as the rural-urban transition zone where urban and rural uses mix and often clash.
