"How to Break Your Own Heart: Visitors Welcome by Zaviera Simmons marked a new direction in the artist's practice. Until this point, her work had been primarily in photography. With this active and activity-oriented art installation, the artist explored other long-standing interests in music, particularly the relationship of jazz and contemporary art and the notion of 'DJing' culture. The installation was used as a work-space for the artist and guest musicians, as well as a space for contemplation and concerts open to the general public." -- p. 11.
