Manuel Alvarez, 1794-1856
Manuel Alverez was born in 1794 at Abelgas in the Region of Leon, Spain, the son of José and María Antonia arias. He immigrated to Mexico in 1818 and to the United States in 1823, by way of Cuba. In the United States, he traveled to Missouri, and from there became trader to Mexico. He settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he was a merchant. He is known for his work for New Mexico's statehood. He died at Santa Fe in 1856.
