On blue ice
Antarctica holds a special place in New Zealanders' hearts and since 1923 New Zealanders have had their own slice of Antarctica. In 2001, Kim Griggs forged her own connection with Antarctica when she was selected to go as a journalist for Antarctica New Zealand's media programme. The author is a New Zealand free-lance journalist who gradually became more interested in Antarctica, eventually applying and being accepted for an eight-day visit there. She tells what it's like to be an ordinary person in an extraordinary land in this frank and amusing account of everyday survival there.
